Week 9 Recap & Top Performers (2026)

Final week of the regular season is here

Here it is! The final week of the regular season for the 2026 high school baseball season. Seniors, enjoy it. For those of you lucky enough to experience playoff baseball over the next few weeks, don't lose sight of the goal. Have fun and give it your all!

First, congratulations to the Riviera Seahawks on their District Championship in District 32-2A. The Seahawks, led by Adrian Amaya, will now look to make a run in the postseason. We have some other district titles that are still undecided, with 29-5A potentially shaping up to be a tie after CC Ray and CC Veterans Memorial split their series last week. District 30-3A is also a split at the top, with London routing Bishop, getting revenge by a final of 11-1. District 31-4A will see Calallen repeat as district champs after they run ruled rival Tuloso-Midway at home last week.

On Saturday, I watched Calallen take on London for a few innings before I had to leave early. London jumped on Coll Carroll (LHP) in the first inning and led 1-0 most of the game. However, in the final few innings, Calallen scratched for a run to tie it, then took the lead. They were able to hold on and get a 2-1 win, in a battle of the defending state champions. This was a great test for both teams, as they are both looking to repeat their success from last season.

WEEK 9 POWER RANKINGS

Coastal Bend Large School & RGV With no change. Bishop creeps just outside of the top 5 with a huge win over London.

College Spotlight - Jacob Delgadillo, Odessa College (JUCO)

Our 2025 Laredo & RGV Overall MVP has been proving his worth at the college level. Jacob Delgadillo, a freshman at Odessa College, is making a great case to be recruited after just one year in JUCO ball. He is hitting .369 with 15 home runs, 45 RBI, 47 runs scored. Those are crazy numbers! The backstop is a PSJA alumni who led them to the 6A Region IV final last season against Dripping Springs. He is fun to watch! Look for him to be heavily recruited by some larger schools as his freshman season comes to a close.

Pro Spotlight - Justin Lamkin, Kansas City Royals LHP (A+)

The spotlight falls on former Calallen Wildcast LHP, Justin Lamkin. Lamkin is one of the best high school pitchers that I ever got a chance to see live, with command that was near perfect. That translated well into the D1 level at Texas A&M- well enough that led to him getting drafted in the 2nd round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City historically loves our South Texas players, with names like Nick Loftin, Kale Emshoff, Blake Mitchell, and now Justin Lamkin through their system.

Lamkin had a great spring breakout appearance prior to the start of the season, pitching to former Sinton Pirate Blake Mitchell. The two are now paired together in High-A Quad Cities to start the 2026 season. Lamkin has appeared in 3 games so far, and has pitched 11.2 innings, giving up only 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Opposing hitters are only hitting .128 against him, with 18 strikeouts to go along with that. Overall, those are some pretty solid numbers for the rookie. Lamkin will look to have a successful pro career, hoping to replicate success from other left handed pitchers from the area like Rob Zastryzny and Anthony Banda.
