Week 7 Recap & Top Performers (2026)

DISTRICT RACES & WEEKLY RECAP, WRITTEN BY JAVIER GUZMAN

As we head into the final month of the regular season, there are some interesting district races going down to the wire. Here is a rundown of district standings and possible playoff teams.

30-6A | Usually is dominated by the Laredo schools, but United South (6-1) has taken control and sits atop the standings. Medina Valley (5-3) and Eagle Pass (4-2) are on the heels of United South. The big surprise here is that United (3-3) and Alexander (3-5) are fighting for the last playoff spot with Laredo LBJ (3-3). It’s definitely going to be interesting to see who reaches the playoffs out of this district.

31/32-6A | Is probably more settled than 30-6A, as La Joya (3-1) and PSJA (4-0) are battling for the top spot in 31-6A, and in 32-6A Los Fresnos is in control. PSJA is getting hot at the right time, and their ace pitcher Jesse Garza is on the mend. La Joya (3-0) has been so consistent that they have been on top of our Power Rankings since Week 1.

29-5A | “Big 12” is, to no surprise, up for grabs. Veterans Memorial (10-2), CC Ray (10-2), and Gregory-Portland (8-4) are all within reach of a district title. Who will take it is the big question, as this race will come down to the final four district games of the season, with Vets and Ray battling it out next week. Don’t count out GP or FB, as they both have an easier path to finish the season. CC Moody, CC Carroll, and Alice are all tied at (4-6) and sit on the outside looking in, but would need to win at least four of their final six games to make a push for the last playoff spot.

30-5A | A very competitive district this year, as Mission (9-1), La Joya Palmview (9-1), Roma (8-2), Laredo Martin (7-5), and Rio Grande City (7-3) are all in a good position to clinch a playoff berth. One team out of this group will be left out, however.

31-5A | This RGV 5A District has always been a tough one, as Mission Sharyland (9-1), Sharyland Pioneer (9-2), PSJA North (8-3), McAllen Memorial (6-5), and McAllen Rowe (7-4) battle it out for the four playoff spots. Don’t be surprised if one—or maybe a few—teams out of this district make a deep playoff run.

32-5A | Weslaco East, Harlingen South, and Brownsville Rivera are all within one game of each other, sitting at (11-1), (10-2), and (10-2) in district play as they battle for the top spot. Donna, Mercedes, and Brownsville Porter are in contention for the fourth spot, as they too are within one game of each other. Another solid group of Valley teams in this district.

27-4A | Plenty of parity this year, as Uvalde (6-1), Somerset (5-2), Pleasanton (5-2), and Floresville (4-3) are the top four teams. As for who wins the district championship—flip a coin. Any of these teams can win it.

30-4A | has been a bit of a surprise. Sinton, the perennial district champion year in and year out, just fell to Port Lavaca in extra innings and now sits tied with Beeville for the top spot. Beeville has come on strong lately with some top pitching performances from Tyler Lang. Port Lavaca and Ingleside sit in the third and fourth spots for now, while Rockport is still looking for its first district win.

31-4A | This one has had no surprises, as Calallen (4-0), Tuloso-Midway (3-1), and Robstown (2-2) have taken control of the top three spots. Zapata (1-3) and Kingsville (0-4) are left to battle it out for the final playoff spot after the first round of district play. Don’t expect much to change in the second round.

32-4A | Valley View has been a big surprise, sitting alone on top at (6-1). Hidalgo (4-3), the district favorite, and La Feria (3-3) sit in second and third, while Rio Grande Grulla holds the final playoff spot. Will Hidalgo overtake Valley View, or will there be a new district champion?

26-3A | Goliad has been in control of this district this year and sits at (5-0) after the first round of district play. Poth (4-1), Stockdale (3-2), and Nixon-Smiley (2-3) follow in second, third, and fourth. The Tigers have strong pitching depth and several juniors who are major contributors as they battle Poth for the top spot.

29-3A | This one has been interesting and somewhat surprising as well. Taft and George West are tied for first place in the district at (5-1). Mathis (4-2) and Aransas Pass (2-4) sit in the third and fourth spots heading into the final weeks of district play. Odem and West Oso are both (1-5) and will need to get something going if they want to contend for a playoff spot.

30-3A | “Little Big 12” has been living up to its name once again. Bishop, to no surprise, sits on top at (5-0) after defeating London (4-1) on a walk-off in the first meeting between the district’s top teams. Then there is a logjam as San Diego, Orange Grove, and Banquete all sit at (2-3). Santa Gertrudis has battled but sits at (0-5). Another district that will likely come down to the final game. Don’t be surprised if there is a tiebreaker game to decide the final playoff spot.

31-3A | Falfurrias and Hebbronville are the teams to watch in this district. Their first showdown was a great game, and game two should be no different.

32-3A | Raymondville (3-0) and Lyford (3-1) will battle it out for the top spot, while Rio Hondo and Progreso sit in the third and fourth spots. Santa Rosa sits in last place at (0-5). Don’t expect much movement in this district moving forward.

30-2A | has been a wild ride to this point, to say the least. Port Aransas (7-1), Agua Dulce (7-1), Refugio (5-2), and Kenedy (5-2) have all been beating up on each other. Any of these four teams can win the district title and are looking to make a deep playoff run. Who will be standing on top when it’s all said and done?

31-2A | La Pryor and Charlotte are in control of this district along with Falls City. Three Rivers sits in a playoff spot after the first round of district play at (2-3).

32-2A | Riviera has taken control and currently sits at (5-0) after winning 12 of its last 14 games. Freer (4-2) and Premont (3-2) sit in the second and third spots, while Ben Bolt (1-4) holds the fourth and final playoff position. Freer has a big game looming with Riviera in the second round of district play and will look to challenge for the top spot.

WEEK 7 POWER RANKINGS

Coastal Bend Large School & RGV With no change. Bishop creeps just outside of the top 5 with a huge win over London.

College Spotlight - Jack Bell, TCU (D1)

It's a Ray Texan duo in the spotlight this week, as we have a pair of Jack's that are highlighted! Jack Bell, currently in his 3rd season of college baseball, has been heating up in his 2nd season at TCU. During the last full week of March, Jack went on a tear, posting the following stats:

He hit .588 Avg, 3 HR, 7 RBI, and was 10-for-17. That is some serious skill at the D1 level. TCU has faltered a bit since starting the season highly ranked, but they are looking to correct course as the season begins to wind down soon. Jack continues to be a spark for the Horned Frogs, as he is currently hitting .321 on the season with 25 hits and 15 RBI. This guy was fun to watch in high school, and that hasn't changed a bit. Always happy to see our local products performing well on the national scene.

Pro Spotlight - Jack Martinez, St. Louis Cardinals RHP (A)

The spotlight falls on former Ray Texan Jack Martinez. Martinez has had a fun journey through college to the pros. Here is his path:

Graduated from Ray > RHP at D3 Trinity University in San Antonio > RHP at D1 UL-Lafayette > RHP at D1 Arizona State > Drafted in the 8th Round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks > Traded as the return for Nolan Arenado last year.

Martinez made his professional debut down in Florida last week. He went 3 innings with 5 Ks, 3 hits, 1 walk, 0 ERs. Pretty solid debut for the Corpus native! He also makes a trio of Texans currently playing professionally, accompanied by Nick Loftin (MLB-Royals) and Antonio Valdez (LMB-Laredo).

Personally, I think Jack has a solid career ahead of him. He has the build and physicality to compete as a pro, and has the stuff (high 90's). He will be fun to keep an eye on as he works the minor league grind over the next few seasons.
